Crosbies Hut

#50 – 10th August 2015

This wee 10 bunker hut is nestled in a clearing in the Coromandel Forest Park. There are many routes you can take to access this hut and it requires booking.

The hut was built in 2010 and has a bit of a history surrounding it.

It was built in an old farming settlement from 1880 that was farmed up till the time it became part of the Coromandel Forest Park in 1970. It is also tragically the site of a memorial for two Swedish tourists who went missing in the area in 1989, Urban Hoglin & Heidi Paakkonen.

The hut has spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding park, including the unusual looking Table Mountain. The huts fire is run by coal which I always find quite cool, and has a good living space, and a great deck for soaking up sunrays.
