#3 – 15th March 2012
Located in the Tongariro National Park along one of New Zealands great walks known as the ‘Tongariro Northern Circuit’. It sleeps 26 and must be booked during the great walk season of October – May. During the great walk season gas cookers and a hut warden will be at the hut. The heating here is also gas.
The landscape this hut sits amongst is absolutely stunning! Perched in the volcanic landscape with Mt Ngaurahoe in the background (also known as Mt Doom – Lord of the Rings), its absolutely a ‘must not miss’ hut.
I shared this hut with an Outdoor Pursuits group of young students about 16 – 18 years old who left the hut at 2am to climb to the summit of Mt Ngaurahoe to watch the sunrise. Still kicking myself I didn’t do so too! How spectacular!
